Te Pae Tawhiti is a scholarship designed for Māori who have a desire to contribute to the enhancement of the Māori kaimoana industry.

The logo needed to be broad with the scholarship covering a wide range of topics around the marine environment, sustainability, social or political issues or indigenous studies which relate to aquaculture or our oceans. 

The dominant wave on the left hand side represents the moana or ocean and the horizontal design represents fresh water. 

Within the fresh water aspect of the logo design you will see there is a traditional Māori tuna/eel design. Eels are known for living in clean streams and rivers with a well-balanced ecosystem. This inclusion symbolises our desire to live harmoniously with nature which is the intention of the scholarship.
